Gametize’s very own 5D Framework is what we use when we’re planning to implement a gamification strategy.
We’ve devised this based on our experience and are confident it’s a good foundational framework for any use case. We really hope you’ll find it just as useful!
Psst, here are some examples of what we’ve used the 5D Framework for:
- Employee orientation & onboarding
- Conferences and exhibitions
- Talent acquisition (i.e. recruitment)
And here are some examples of what we’ve seen our clients and workshop participants use the 5D Framework for:
- Encouraging employees to recycle more
- Encouraging employees to adopt healthier lifestyles
- Quiz nights (ask us more about this!)
Gametize’s 5D Framework
1. Define your problem
Identify a problem you want to solve.
- What is the problem you want to solve?
- What is causing this problem?
2. Determine your goals
What is the outcome you wish to achieve?
- What is/are the end goal(s) you wish to achieve?
- How will you know if you have solved your problem (i.e. what does success look like to you)?
3. Decide your target behaviors
What are your target behaviors and emotions?
- What behaviors you want to drive in your Players?
- What should Players feel when they play your game?
4. Describe and profile your Players
Make a list of the characteristics of your target group.
- Who are your Players? Describe their demographic and habits.
5. Design your gamification strategy
Decide what your gamification strategy will be based on:
- Visual style
- Tone of voice
- Interactive elements
Most importantly, remember that the 5D Framework is an iterative process; there’s no such thing as a perfect gamification strategy! So if you find, for example, that your initial player profile isn’t accurate – go ahead and change it.
