Gametize Hub

Sustainability Series: Sustainability Tourism

Continuing our exploration of sustainability games developed during the SMU-X LTB 2023 module, we present an engaging game designed to instill a habit of eco-friendliness while raising awareness of Singapore’s movement towards sustainable tourism, one day at a time!

Problem Statement

In 2019, the tourism sector in Singapore generated 1.5 million tonnes of waste and was estimated to produce 10.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions, highlighting the need for more sustainable practices.

Due to a lack of awareness and education about the importance of sustainable practices among tourists, there is a perception that sustainable tours are not as exciting or engaging as other types of tours,

Goals

Short-Term Goals:
  • 80% of tourists in tour groups start to engage in sustainable practices. Tourists will gain a better understanding of the significance of sustainability and the impact of their actions.
  • 7 in 10 tour agencies to adopt Gametize and its functions to engage tourists in sustainable tourism for special interests
Long-Term Goals:
  • Make it a sustainable tourism movement by 2030
  • To align our goals with the Singapore Green Plan 2030
